David Gumpert is right on! In his blog post, he highlights the fact that some farmers don't really understand why people are buying direct from the farmer. David also touches on the fact that consumers who are buying from "regular" grocery stores (or fast food, etc), do not put a priority on food that is valuable to their bodies.
I truly think that the cost involved with not eating unadulterated farm fresh food is enormous (and incalculable). People don't realize that their chronic health conditions that are costing them discomfort and money (usually insurance money). Then there are all sorts of hidden costs, to the environment, or to the economy, etc.
There's a guy in Detroit who is reopening his restaurant after being laid up in the hospital for months. He "saw the light" during his battle for health in the hospital. His SAD (Standard American Diet) restaurant Ridley's Home Cookin', is being reincarnated into Ridley's Real Food. It's a huge gamble, because most people won't see the value in paying for real food that is properly prepared. To read David Gumpert's blog posting, click on "read more".
